FELIXSTOWE PORT CONTAINER SERVICES

Located on a five acre site at 86 Park, Felixstowe Port Container Services Limited (FPCS) provides a comprehensive inspection, cleaning and repair facility for empty containers.

Established in 1996, FPCS has quickly developed a reputation as a secure, high quality facility and has expanded its range of services to an increasing number of the Port’s shipping lines and agents.

The depot is built on reinforced hard standing and is serviced by the latest double-lift, empty container handlers. In keeping with environmental requirements, the facility also has a purpose-built steam wash system for safe waste treatment.

Having the advantage of being ‘on dock’, the transfer of containers on to the terminals is easily accomplished and activities fit closely with the Port’s core business of container handling.

Information technology plays an increasingly important role within the business. FPCS is connected to the Destin8 community system to facilitate the fast recycling of container equipment. Reporting is generated from a sophisticated container control system and is available to customers via e-mail.

FPCS has extended opening hours, from 0700 hours until 2200 hours Monday to Friday and 0800 hours until 1230 hours Saturday, to accommodate hauliers calling at the Port.

Investment in modern facilities and equipment coupled with an experienced and highly skilled workforce, ensures that FPCS continues to meet changing customer requirements.

Established in 1996, FPCS has quickly developed a reputation as a secure, high quality facility and has expanded its range of services to an increasing number of the Port’s shipping lines and agents.

REEFER MONITORING

Formerly an air conditioning and commercial refrigeration service company in the London area, Eldapoint, in 1968, was encouraged by one major shipping line to become involved in the provision of maintenance and repair services in respect of refrigerated containers.

Within a short time Eldapoint was providing reefer services on behalf of many container shipping lines and leasing companies and was the first service company in the UK to be recognised by the major reefer manufacturers, i.e., Carrier Transicold, Daikin, Mitsubishi and Thermo King, through appointments as service, spare parts and warranty agents.

Today, Eldapoint is the largest empty container depot operator in the country with facilities in Grangemouth, Liverpool, Essex, Felixstowe, Sheerness and Southampton with additional service centres in Greenock, Hull, Immingham, Seaforth, Barking and Tilbury.

The Eldapoint depot at Sub Station Road, Felixstowe covers an area of seven acres and has a capacity of 2,100 TEU. We provide storage, handling and major and minor repair services for all types of equipment including, general containers, flatracks, open tops, reefers and ISO tanks.

Eldapoint Limited has also been honoured by an appointment as exclusive loaded reefer monitoring contractor to the Port of Felixstowe which it has held for six years since 1st January, 1999 and which will continue, at least, until 1st January, 2009. Alongside this service Eldapoint also provides 24 hour, seven day per week reefer breakdown cover for all Port users. Contact: 01394 613110

FELIXSTOWE SEAFARERS’ CENTRE

The Seafarers’ Centre is open daily from 1000 hours to 2300 hours (excepting Sunday when it closes at 2230 hours).

A mini-bus is available to ferry seafarers to and from the berths at Trinity, Walton and Landguard terminals and in one year carried over 40,000 passengers. Many facilities are available including a shop, recreation area for tabletop games, bar, TV room and a quiet room to sit and write home. There is a small chapel for services and reflective prayer. In addition to telephone, fax, and mail facilities, there is a large library of books, Bibles in various languages, foreign papers and magazines. The Centre is registered as a Bureau de Change which may also be used by bona fide personnel working within the Port of Felixstowe.

The centre is an ecumenical registered charity managed by a Board of Trustees comprising the British & International Sailor’s Society (Free Church), Apostleship of the Sea (Roman Catholic), and the Mission to Seafarers (Anglican). The Centre is managed on behalf of the Trustees by a Manager who reports directly to the Trustees. The in-house administrative staff are all part time, 50% of whom are voluntary.

The chaplaincy team comprising an ordained minister, a lay minister and assistant lay minister are seconded to the Centre by the participating mission societies. The team offers a 7 day week service of spiritual and welfare care and assistance to the thousands of visiting seafarers who call at the port every year.

They also provide an outreach service to Seafarer Centres located at the Haven Ports of Ipswich, Mistley and Harwich using minibus transport links. The chaplaincy team can be contacted by email at chaplains@felixstowe.fsnet.co.uk

The centre also acts as a communication hub for the international maritime community offering the vital link in keeping family, loved ones and friends in contact by the use of traditional postal mail, fax, telephone and email-Internet services. An Internet café was officially opened on 5 October 2005 by Captain Gary Wilson.
