1) Why has the picture of where the RTGs are on the park disappeared?

The RTG graphic from the bottom of the website has been removed because RTGs are now allocated on a "work required" basis, and so the old deployment plan is no longer accurate for making a decision on which area is likely to be the fastest to collect from.

It is not possible to update the graphic with the new RTG layout, because the RTG deployment pattern is constantly changing to respond to the needs in each zone. Instead, the results by container now show a total for moves in a zone and a total in the THA for that zone.

2) Why are there no longer red and green spots next to the container details to indicate the "best" collection?

The red and green coloured spots have been removed from the results because they were misleading. Due to the manner in which RTGs are now deployed, the previous calculations to recommend the "best option" to collect are no longer accurate. Instead the following rules should be used.

3) What exactly is included in the Total Zone Moves?

This includes all active moves currently in the zone. This could be any combination of Haulage, Shipping, Rail or Internal housekeeping moves that are currently in progress.

4) How do I know which is the fastest container to collect?

There is no definite way of telling which container will be the quickest to collect, however the following rules may help.

  • The maximum amount of active moves allowed in an RTG zone before a haulier is sent to the THA is set by default to 8.
  • If possible, avoid any zone where the THA count is not zero because you are very likely to be sent to the THA.
  • If possible, avoid any zone where the active move count is high (close to 8) because you have a greater chance of being sent to the THA.
  • If possible, avoid a zone where the active moves are at zero, because there is greater possibility that an RTG is not present in the zone.

In summary: Select a zone with a low move count (1- 4) that also has a zero THA count. This will give you a better chance of avoiding the THA and of an RTG being present in the zone.

Note: The default maximum active moves allowed in a zone can be changed manually by the port in the event of weather warnings and traffic incidents, so a driver may be sent to the THA when there are less than 8 moves in a zone in certain circumstances.

5) How do I know where my container is?

When you enter a container number into the entry field and press "submit", one of the following results will be displayed:

  • When a container is here and ready to be collected, a zone location, the number of moves already waiting in that zone, and the number of moves already waiting in the THA for that zone will be displayed.
  • When a container is not in a standard location where it can be easily collected, including trailers and special moves, a message reading "This container has been landed" will be displayed.
  • When a container is in a FORK location, a message reading "TTYFOR" and then a number will be displayed. The number indicates the block of hundreds the unit is in. For example "TTYFOR2" would display for a unit in "TTYFOR225".
  • When a container is in the Coldstore, a message reading "TTYCOLD" will be displayed.
  • When a container is in 70 Shed, a message reading "TTY70SH" will be displayed.
  • When a container is in Q Block, a message reading "TTYQBLK" will be displayed.
  • When a container is being moved within the park, a message reading "Container in transit, please try again later" will be displayed.
  • When a container has not yet arrived on a vessel, the Vessel ETA and ETD will be displayed.
  • When a container has arrived on a vessel but has not yet been landed, the vessel arrival time, estimated discharge time and vessel ETD will be displayed.
  • When the container number of an export is entered and it is on the park, a message reading "Export container on park" will be returned.

6) Why can't I see exact locations any more?

Although the previous version of the site displayed more detailed locations of some containers, for security reasons we have been advised we can no longer display this information on a public website. More detailed information can still be accessed using your secure VBS log in and the service desk can help with any other queries on 01394 604060.

7) Who do I call to suggest improvements or ask more questions?

Any more suggestions, questions, or for further clarification please call the Operational Support Office on 01394 604060.
