VBS Update – Final Conditions

The final conditions of VBS were introduced on Monday 3rd November 2008. The final number of bookings available has been reduced from 230 to 225 (i.e. process capacity) and the ‘tolerances’, i.e. the period either side of the booking in which the driver can arrive, have been reduced to 30 minutes.

It is vital that hauliers ensure that they are making bookings for their drivers in advance of them arriving at the Port. Drivers arriving too early should not arrive at the Port until the window for their booking commences; however, if this is not possible, drivers are advised to park along Oysterbed Road and await their booking window to commence before entering the gate holding areas.

Welcome
Port of Felixstowe In Gates

Over 4,000 HGV drivers visit the Port of Felixstowe every day. Although the Port offers a 24-hour service, 40% of these arrivals occur within a daily six-hour period. To enable the Port to improve its service level to hauliers and plan its yard resource more efficiently, a Vehicle Booking System (VBS) has been introduced at Trinity Terminal.

By ensuring that drivers pre-book their containers for collection/delivery within certain allocated time slots, VBS will enable a better spread of jobs throughout the working day.

VBS has already had a significant impact on the number of rejections that occur within the gate complexes. Previously, approximately 15% of all arriving drivers were rejected due to incorrect or incomplete information being entered in advance of their arrival.

The full introduction of VBS will enable the Port to use the information provided in advance to improve the service level offered to hauliers.
