BRITAIN’S LARGEST CONTAINER RAIL TERMINAL
All rail terminals are multi-user facilities, with open access to Freight Operating Companies.
The port works closely with rail stakeholders, and with organisations like Network Rail, to provide improved rail services for the port and its customers. Investments by Hutchison Ports UK (HPUK) have included two new Rail Mounted Gantry Cranes, the creation of the Creek sidings to provide a remote holding area (and additional terminal capacity at the South Terminal as a result), and the £40m North Rail Terminal, co-financed by the European Union Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) programme. Most recently, HPUK has fully implemented a state-of-the-art control and monitoring system at the port’s rail terminals.
