HPUK is committed to creating a safe, welcoming, and informed environment for all employees, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression. That’s why this year we’re celebrating Pride month with our Port of Felixstowe Pride Network colleagues! Our LGBTQ+ Working Group and Pride Network work year-round to support our LGBTQ+ colleagues, promoting equality and raising awareness of the challenges faced.
This year HPUK proudly flew the Pride Progress flag. The colours of the flag, from red to purple, signify, life, healing, new ideas, nature, serenity, and spirit.
We think it’s important to show pride in our own unique way, and what better way than with the containers we handle day-in, day-out. This year, we constructed a rainbow container wall in a stack of containers to reflect the colours of the pride flag. The Progress flag – an updated version of the traditional rainbow flag which aims to show support for historically excluded LGBTQ+ community members – has also been added to both of our dock gate containers with the message that ‘Everyone is welcome here’.
The Pride movement began in the USA in the 1960s. It has grown into an international celebration of diversity. Pride Month marks the progress that has been made to date but is also a crucial reminder that much remains to be done.
