Celebrations for Port of Felixstowe’s 150th anniversary

A series of events to mark the 150th anniversary at the Port of Felixstowe has begun with a gala dinner at the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich.

Future events include two family days in August for the port’s employees and their families, and participation in the Felixstowe Carnival in July.

The history of the port dates back to 1875 when the Felixstowe Railway and Pier Company – now the Felixstowe Dock and Railway Company and still the statutory port operator – was established by an Act of Parliament.

Over 150 port stakeholders including customers, suppliers, employee representatives and public officials were entertained at the event with music and dancing from across the decades compered by Suffolk-born soprano Laura Wright.

The evening concluded with a spectacular drone display above the Thames.
