The Port of Felixstowe became the first UK port to welcome the call of two new Class 99 hybrid locomotives. Operated by GB Railfreight, locomotives 99001 and 99002 made their first test-call on Sunday 15 February 2026. The Port of Felixstowe is the UK’s largest intermodal hub, offering more daily rail services and sustainable supply chain solutions than any other port or terminal in the country.
The Class 99’s hybrid design, capable of operating on both electrified and non‑electrified routes, reduces emissions by more than 50%, marking a further significant step forward in sustainable rail freight. This advancement will further accelerate the transition to lower‑carbon logistics solutions across the UK, strengthening Felixstowe’s role in supporting greener, more efficient supply chains.
