The winning project used trailer and vehicle movement data from the nGen system in conjunction with engagement with operational staff to generate ideas to reduce fuel consumption by both, lowering the number of internal tractor (IT) movements and the distance they covered.
A range of measures from trailer bays allocated closer to the berth and efficient scheduling of trailer moves resulted in reduced emissions, fuel cost reduction due to less IT running time, increased availability of ITs due to reduced servicing requirements and improved vessel punctuality.
HPUK has set out a target to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2035. To achieve this, HPUK is investing in state-of-the-art green technologies and collectively exploring opportunities to further support its net-zero goals. The Harwich project is a great example of HPUK teams being proactive and working creatively together on the journey to net-zero operational emissions.
